HOUSE RESOLUTION NO. 533
Commending Community Lutheran Church.

 

Agreed to by the House of Delegates, March 27, 2012

 

WHEREAS, Community Lutheran Church in Sterling will proudly celebrate its 40th anniversary in 2012; and

WHEREAS, founded in 1972 under the Reverend Glen H. Nelson, Community Lutheran Church met in various locations until the summer of 1973, when it began to share Sterling Middle School with two other churches; and

WHEREAS, in 1980 Community Lutheran Church began to worship in its new facility, which was located at the corner of Highway 7 and Route 637; and

WHEREAS, on October 4, 1992, Community Lutheran Church laid the cornerstone for a new building to meet the demands of its growing congregation; and

WHEREAS, a few weeks later, the first service was held in the new facility with a celebration of the ordination of Pastor Geri A. Opsahl with Bishop Harold Jansen as ordinator, Pastor Paul Opsahl as homilist, and Professor Eric Gritsch from Gettysburg Seminary as presenter; and

WHEREAS, the following February, Community Lutheran Church dedicated the building, with Bishop Jansen preaching and former pastors bringing greetings; and

WHEREAS, in 2012 Community Lutheran Church will celebrate its 20th year of worshipping in its current location; and

WHEREAS, today, Community Lutheran Church has grown to about 750 active members, approximately 450 of whom are confirmed, who enjoy worship, fellowship, and service; and

WHEREAS, Community Lutheran Church offers a variety of missions to its members and reaches out to those in the community under the spiritual leadership of the Reverend Dr. Joseph Vought; and

WHEREAS, Community Lutheran Church proudly celebrates its 40th anniversary of worship as a congregation and 20 years in its current building and looks forward to continuing to serve its members and the community; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED by the House of Delegates, That Community Lutheran Church hereby be commended on the occasion of its 40th anniversary; and, be it

RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to Community Lutheran Church as an expression of the House of Delegates? congratulations and best wishes for the church?s continued success in its ministries.
